Economist

About the role

The Economist will work in the United Nations Resident Coordination Office in Banjul, reporting to the Head of RCO. The role supports the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team with economic analysis, evidence‑based advice and policy support to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct economic and policy analysis on sustainable development, economic transformation, green transition, digital transformation and SDG financing, providing evidence‑based advice to the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team.
• Research, analyse and present economic, social and development data, emerging trends and good practices, and prepare briefing notes, policy papers and reports.
• Support the implementation and localisation of global guidelines and tools related to integrated SDG analysis, strategic foresight, data‑driven decision‑making and innovation, in collaboration with the Regional Office and SDG Coordination Division.
• Identify entry points for integrated UN policy support, monitor national, regional and global economic developments and assess their implications for SDG achievement at country level.
• Facilitate partnerships and engagement with government, UN entities, International Financial Institutions, private sector, academia and civil society on economic transformation and SDG financing.
• Contribute economic and financing analysis to the Common Country Analysis, Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and joint programmes, including Integrated National Financing Frameworks.
