UNFPA Representative, The Gambia (P-5)

About the role

The Representative leads UNFPA’s country team in The Gambia, overseeing the design and implementation of population, development and sexual and reproductive health programmes. Reporting to the Regional Director, the role ensures alignment with the 2030 Agenda and UNFPA’s strategic plan.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, manage and evaluate an innovative Country Programme of Cooperation focused on population, development and universal access to sexual and reproductive health rights.
• Lead advocacy and partnership building with government, UN agencies, donors, civil society and the private sector.
• Ensure integration of SRHR issues into national development agendas and emergency response plans.
• Oversee resource mobilisation, financial management and results‑based reporting.
• Represent UNFPA in national and regional fora, promoting the organization’s mandate.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in leading large‑scale development or humanitarian programmes, preferably in SRHR or population sectors.
• Proven ability to manage multi‑stakeholder partnerships and complex budgets.
• Strong understanding of UN systems, development policies and the humanitarian‑development‑peace nexus.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills.
